frankie and her babies | my first remote session in san diego, california

I’ve had quite a few questions lately about remote sessions. Mostly, “how are you doing that?”

It’s simple: I use an app to connect with clients and direct them via video call while I have control of their camera. I am home in my office and they are home with their little loves.

Remote photography sessions allow me to connect with people from around the world that I wouldn’t normally get to photograph. They can be seen through my eyes, similar to when I would travel to them for a full photo session, but right from our own homes. Most of all, it gives me an opportunity to romanticize parts of their lives they wouldn’t normally think twice about. It’s been magic being invited into these spaces.

This was my first remote session. Frankie and I connected in 2021 through Edited by Artists (a photo editing company I work for). Frankie is an incredibly talented photographer in California. I felt so drawn and connected to her early on and I loved how her personality felt like actually sunshine. (Seriously, check her out, you’ll feel it, too.)

The session was maybe 20 minutes in her backyard with her daughters. Her husband was my hands and feet, holding the camera as I directed them all. Spring had FULLY sprung in California by March, a concept I couldn’t quite wrap my head around being from North Dakota. There were flowers and an entire vine wall in their backyard. Absolutely gorgeous. What I loved most? It was comfy. It was easy. It was simple. And just like a full session with me, all I required of them was to be present.

thank you, Frankie. xo
